Innovative MBA801 rotating paddle detector also measures in falling bulk streams

Quickborn, March 2019: MBA Instruments GmbH is presenting a further product optimization within its level measurement technology to trade visitors at this year's POWTECH: The MBA800 rotary paddle series is being supplemented by the newly designed swivel paddle. The new MBA801 halfpipe enables measurement in a falling bulk flow and can therefore be used in even more bulk materials.

The key innovation of the MBA801 is the positioning of the digital swivel blade: the blade in the halfpipe is directed downwards by 90° and is therefore ideally suited for horizontal installation in silos. The level switch can therefore be used in places where level measurement was previously not possible. As both the shaft and vane are located under the roof of the halfpipe, they are fully protected from falling bulk material and can therefore also be used in the bulk flow. The extra-strong shaft with a diameter of 12 millimetres is mounted with the firmly welded-on vane under a protective roof so that it is optimally protected from heavy or abrasive bulk material. The falling bulk material has no influence on the measurement.

Another advantage of the swivel vane is that no material can wrap around the shaft or jam the vane during swiveling - this prevents error messages. The vane swivels 120° below the protective roof. If the bulk material in the silo rises and blocks the pivoting blade, an electrical signal is emitted - the silo is filled.

Stepper motor technology as the basis
All level indicators in the MBA800 rotary paddle series are based on innovative stepper motor technology, which has already proven itself in space travel and in long-term tests in the automotive industry. As power is transmitted contactlessly via magnetic coils, return springs and mechanical switches are no longer required. The motor operates independently of temperature and with a constant, low heat emission, so that additional heaters can be dispensed with in cold application areas. Permanently installed and bolted, the motor can withstand even the heaviest loads. Unlike synchronous motors with mechanically moving parts, stepper motors offer the advantage that their functions are not affected by vibrations. The entire MBA800 swing door series is thus insensitive to shocks, as confirmed by a vibration and shock test at 29 g. This alone has opened up new areas of application that would have been unthinkable with previous rotating paddle detector
