The best in its class: certified conductivity measurement with the MLA1000

Quickborn, 6 April 2021 - With the MLA1000, MBA Instruments GmbH has revolutionized electrical conductivity measurement in oil and set a new standard in the field of continuous measurement. Thanks to continuous monitoring and reduced use of additives, the MLA1000 ensures sustainability and safety when pumping hazardous liquids. This makes it a key element on the way to more sustainable and economical processes in the industrial handling of oil. Designed for conductivity measurement in light mineral oils, it is already being used by more than 100 airport operators worldwide.

For quality reasons, the conductivity in oil is often kept in the lowest measuring range of 5 - 2,000 pS/m (picoSiemens/meter). Continuous monitoring of this important safety parameter is essential for industrial handling. The conductivity value of kerosene in a pipeline is set accordingly precisely and continuously maintained at this value by the MLA1000. The measuring device uses the flow velocity within the pipeline to provide a highly accurate current value of conductivity and temperature. Additives are added to prevent electrostatic charging, sparking and possible explosions. With the help of the MLA1000, these additions can be controlled extremely precisely and according to the principle of "as much as necessary, as little as possible". This is safer, more environmentally friendly and, last but not least, saves costs.

Control and documentation along the entire supply chain

The MLA1000 is used for the supply of fuel along the supply chain: in the refinery, at the pumping stations on the pipeline, in the upstream tank farm, the supply line at the airport and at the refueling facility on the airport premises. The safety requirements for all types of kerosene that apply worldwide in the industry can be precisely fulfilled with the MLA1000. Particularly important for users: the measuring method enables all measured values to be recorded, so that the legally prescribed control can be reliably verified at every delivery step.

Before the continuous inline measurement of conductivity, only single point measurements were used. Motivated by pipeline operators, the experts at MBA Instruments continuously developed their measurement technology and were finally able to launch the MLA1000 on the market. Like all measuring devices from MBA Instruments, the MLA1000 is compact and easy to use. "The MLA1000 is used worldwide by our customers to make their processes more sustainable and safer," says Frank Wengler, Product Manager at MBA Instruments. "This makes us proud and at the same time spurs us on to continue setting industry standards."
